Pennyworth Is Closed to the Public This August
We’re very sorry to inform you that on Thursday, July 31 we discovered we had bed bugs on two items of clothing in the shop. An exterminator was immediately contacted to come in and we have begun extermination treatments. We will continue to work with the exterminator until we are sure that the shop is free of bugs. We will not reopen the shop until the exterminator has confirmed that there are no remaining bugs in the shop.
We urge our customers to always immediately inspect and wash items from any thrift shop. We will be assessing our own inspection and sorting methods to reduce the chance of this happening again.
Bed bugs are orange bugs about the size of a pin head and can move fast. They can be killed by washing items in hot water and drying them on high heat for at least 30 minutes. You can learn more about bed bugs from the EPA.
Please hold all donations until further notice so we can more easily control this problem.
If you have any questions, please email us at firstname.lastname@example.org. Thank you for your patience.
Pennyworth is a volunteer-run thrift shop that specializes in affordable treasures and friendly people. We have been a part of Downtown Silver Spring for over 60 years and love this community.
All shop items are donations and sold at affordable prices. Most are under $10! Available items include household goods, women’s and men’s clothing, children’s clothing, children’s toys, adult and children’s books, and decorations. New items become available daily.
Pennyworth supports a variety of ministries at Grace Episcopal Church such as the Homeless Ministry. In 2011 Pennyworth donated over $1,500 to outside causes including Habitat for Humanity and Montgomery Hospice.
